Whoops!
I had a new gaffe this morning and can’t recall ever doing anything even remotely similar. So I wokeup and had a small headache and decided to take some Advil. I had two glasses–one was full of pure unadulterated H20 and the other was the remains of a dirty martini from last night. I unwittingly took a swig of the martini and almost puked upon realizing it. I managed to compose myself however and quickly found the water glass and everything seems to be fine now.
I have been having good success lately varying my betsizes in different situations and I am really happy with how things have been going. I posted a hand in the last blog where I induced a bluff with 2nd pair. Here is a hand where I have the board completely locked up and it’s really hard for him to ever have anything but I chose a bet size that got him to spazz off the rest of his money with Ten high.

I have also been experimenting with overbetting the turn with mediocre hands (where I think I am almost always ahead) to induce jams from extremely confused draws and weaker made hands. I’ve mostly only been using it against monkeys but it’s pretty neat so far and I’ll probably continue to mess around with it.

Moving is pretty stressful but I think we are getting closer to being finished on all fronts so hopefully that happens soon. And goooooo Ephs! Chelsea’s volleyball team is in the Elite 8 and playing their match tonight. I believe it is going to be webcasted on d3cast.com
Home sweet home
I managed to make it back to LA on Sunday night after my little tour of the East Coast. It was good to be home and I got to go fishing and caught some delicious dolphin (Mahi Mahi not flipper)! The weekend was awesome for sports as well. The Williams v Amherst game was an awesome game (that I got to watch with a bunch of 1955 graduates in Vero Beach) and I was really stoked that we pulled out a 24-23 win. I’m glad all the seniors got to go out on top, I can’t imagine having lost last year. The girls volleyball team also won the NESCAC championship so I was really happy for Chelsea too.
I played some poker yesterday and had a few funny hands–this was my favorite though. Making these annoying small bets is so much fun and people play so retarded vs them. Love smiling and raking in the moniez!

Weekend in Review
So the last few days have been incredibly fun. I flew into NYC on Thursday and got to meet up with Eric and there were a bunch of other Williams people at his and his gf’s apartment and everyone was really excited for homecoming, as was I. My friend Jessie, who is my best friend from high school and currently living around NYC, came in with her roomate for the night and it was great to see her. We all went out to a decent bar and got pretty drunk to start and then Roberto, Jessie and I continued on to some preppy bar called Dorian’s where Ryan met us at like 2am once his flight got in and we were all having a great time and had way too many tequila shots (thanks Jess <3) before leaving who knows when (as an aside bars are open way later here than they are in LA).
Homecoming was incredibly fun, I really had no idea how much fun it would be to go back to old Williamstown. I really missed it a lot and it was awesome to see like every group of friends we had that all came back as well as my old football coaches, old teammates, our favorite bartender (whatup Phil!) and eveyone else. I watched surprisingly little of the football game but had a great time socializing with everyone and can’t remember having that much fun in a while. Williams was awesome and I imagine we’ll probably all visit in the spring sometime for Crawfish Boil.
I am currently sitting (like a tool) in a Starbucks in NYC but instead of having my trendy Mac I am sporting my bruising, oversized Asus which I think makes me slightly less lame. I am staying at my friend Tom’s apartment which is in Chelsea (the ghey area) and had the pleasure of getting hit on by two guys during my lunch just an hour ago, so that was exciting. Another exciting event was that when I got to the register at Starbucks a few minutes ago I was informed that if I voted then I got a free coffee (woot woot) so that was nice.
I played poker for about 45 minutes yesterday which was the first time I had played in like a week so I decided to just play some 2/4 and 3/6 to shake the rust off and get used to playing on a laptop. I ran pretty good and won 1600 in a pretty short period of time and had one pretty funny hand that I will discuss.

So I was playing this guy who was your typical Swedish LAGtard–opening every button, 3betting 30%+ and generally just not too excited about folding at any point. So I switched to minraising buttons vs him to allow me to be able to 4bet with stacksizes more effectively and also to allow for more wiggle room and widen my 3bet-calling range.
His flat-calling range pretty much never hits an AK3 board as he is 3betting all good Aces and Kings and like every pocket pair so it’s pretty much impossible for me to not have the best hand. Anyways, flop and turn are pretty standard for me but I thought river was pretty funny. Once he checks that river he is giving up like 100% of the time really but even given that I decided to make a very small value bet on the river in case he played a K in some weird way (he is Swedish afterall) or to just make him spaz out with a random hand. He can also pretty much never have a flush since my hand looks like a bluff-catcher and thus he wouldn’t expect me to valuebet the river very often and would just v-town a flush himself. So I bet like 1/5 of the pot which is sort of a sfdgksdgsdfdgnh bet if you are him since there is nothing more frustrating than bluffing two streets and then giving up to a 1/5 pot bet on the river and I got him to stick all his money in with 8 hi lol.
Yet again, this blog is getting rather long so I will conclude shortly. I guess I will get back to grinding Craigslist looking for apartments, even though we found one yesterday that is pretty awesome and I would be pretty happy with it. It’s been fun so far on this trip though, and while I am looking forward to going home traveling takes its toll on me and I wouldn’t mind getting back to LA soon (hi RJ and Elan).
Blogging Bonanza!
Disclaimer: the title has nothing to do with the contents of this post.
First order of business: I have noticed this for a while, and it usually occurs in college football but it happened tonight in the Colts MNF appearance as well–and it tilts me to no end. Example, it’s 3rd and 4 and the team clearly knows whether or not they are going to go for it on 4th down or not based on field position, the score, time on the clock et cetera. Now, the question is if you know that you are going to go for it on 4th down, why the hell would you try and make a 30 yard pass on 3rd down?!?!?! It absolutely blows my mind that professional play callers who get paid in some cases >1m year that don’t seem to grasp such a simple concept. Tonight the Colts had such a situation where they clearly knew that they were in 4 down territory, they failed on a long fade throw, then had to gain 4 yards on 4th down. It was a 3 point ballgame and with a first down they would be in scoring position–they had two downs to gain 3-4 yards! asdfdgjkflgdf. THINK AHEAD! Have some modicum of foresight jesus.
Poker: I am running goot! The only downside to running good is that I have not been playing that much poker because I have been playing short sessions (hopefully I am not putting a megajinx on myself by writing this entry). So yet again I can’t post images for some strange reason, but here is a link http://img510.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oct27tp0.jpg
I am up about 43k in NL and 5k in PLO, +about 1500 in rakeback, so all told I am having quite a delicious (and much needed) month. I probably wont play much more this month as I am just relaxing, preserving my nice month (which is retarded) and getting excited to go back for homecoming. Going to NYC on Thursday and Williams for the weekend, should be awesome and I can’t wait to move to NYC full time.
Gogogogo Rays!
Ahhh, this feels so nice to make this blog entry. The Red Sox have finally been defeated. After luckboxing their way to a victory in Game 5, I was starting to wonder whether the Sox had just dug the golden horseshoe out of the closet. The only downside for me in this game was that I couldn’t be back at Williams to watch as Red Sox Nation’s collective soul was crushed and their intenstines ripped from within. The Rays also survived an epic jinxing by my friend Mike. I bet on the series with Mike, who is a rabid Red Sox fan, and got the Rays +130. Being the cagey gambler that he is, Mike went for the tried and true jinx of conceding the bet and the money before the outcome had fully been decided. My FullTilt account received a transfer in the beginning of the 7th inning and it damn near worked. The most surprising thing about this last game was I actually thoroughly enjoyed watching it and am looking forward to perhaps watching some of the World Series.
Haven’t made a blog post in a while, so here are some general musings. Florida State has looked good the last two games and I think they might finally have a QB in Christian Ponder which is great. Antone Smith is finally running the ball really well I must say, although I think you still think he’s horrible Jeff.
Poker is going well this month–for whatever reason I can’t seem to host any images on the blog lately–I am up about 23k so far this month in about 17k hands. Hopefully I can play more hands and continue to win in the second half of the month. PLO is pretty bleh, was up 9k playing it at one point but had one terrible session and even now on the month in PLO. Games have been great lately so I will probably keep playing them, hopefully I can run better and take some scrilla out of those games.
I had a small mental breakthrough today which I am quite pleased with myself about. I woke up and was just generally feeling pretty irritable and annoyed for some reason that I am not entirely sure of, but will remain nameless nonetheless. So instead of playing, likely poorly, I decided to not play at all and just enjoy the day. Caitlin, my roomate’s college girlfriend, came to visist and we went and had lunch at the Standard Hotel in downtown LA today. It was an amazing atmosphere–light breeze and strong sun on a rooftop bar. We had some good food and it was really the most relaxed I have been in quite a while.
I just ordered a new 17″ Asus laptop that I plan to take with me so I can grind while on the road. I am going to homecoming at Williams on November 1st and am really looking forward to see campus again, all my friends and visit NYC. I’m also going to pop home and check out one of my little brother Patrick’s HS football games the week after before I come back to NYC.
Blog is getting pretty long so I guess I will wrap it up. Hopefully I can continue to have good success on the tables and will try and make a dedicated poker post sometime soon.
FU Time Warner and California too!
I have realized that another negative consequence of living in CA is that you are stuck watching crappy PAC 10 games all day and, if lucky, mediocre big 10 games. Additionally, sometimes the best games start at 9am! For instance, today, the best game of the day will probably be Texas v Oklahoma–and I miss most of the 1st half because I was sleeping. Now, there is USC vs ASU (shoot self), Michigan State vs Northwestern (blah), Illinois and Minnesota (WTF!?).
Thank god UGA v Tenn is on, but this will probably be a blowout and I don’t have any action on it so whatever. Guess I will grindddd till the LSU FLorida game.
AHhhhhhhhhh!
Since I quit playing poker in the mornings I figured that would prevent me from getting stuck every day when I wake up. Wrong. Now I just wake up to the market doing a 3 1/2 inward somersault dive every morning, but my boy Ali Velshi said everything will be fine! I guess I am glad the only money I have in the market right now is in a SEP IRA which I wont be needing for a few decades, so whatever. It is funny/crazy how bad things are though.
In other news Darolak is going to NYC this weekend (plz to be getting a job!) so I will probably try and make this a business weekend and make enough money playing poker to make spite bets against Notre Dame and Ohio State.
Poker-wise the month is still going well, I am running pretty good in CAP PLO and the games are hilariously good. I tilted a bit yesterday playing NL and played like shit, but still up a decent amount in NL. I am hoping for a big weekend of tiltless and thoughtful play.
Things are looking up!
On a few different fronts: It seems that I can win money playing this game after all, I am up about 13k in 9k hands so far this month. It appears that Obama is definitely going to win the election. It also appears that Ryan has a bunch of job interviews next week so hopefully he gets one and we can gtfo of LA and move to NYC.
I’ll try and post a couple of interesting hands since I haven’t done that in a while. Here’s a couple of funny hands where I am never bluffing and people’s terrible play finally catches up with them.
This guy had been owning me, three betting a lot, but three betting the wrong hands so it was nice to flop a pair and own his ass here.

That’s all for now, I’d really like to play poker right now but I am going to stick to my guns and go get my car washed or something instead.
Hello October
Continuing with the the clean slate theme of the last two entries, I am attempting to move on to the next chapter in my life as a 23 year old. Last week was pretty interesting for me in a number of different ways and has allowed for a good amount of self reflection–especially over the last two or three days. There is a bunch of personal stuff that I don’t feel comfortable blogging about, but I need to make some changes in how I am living day to day and I unfortunately must forge ahead in certain areas where I wish I could reverse time.
As far as poker goes, I had a decent end to the month winning about 20k on the new computer which means I ended up some amount that I am not entirely sure of due to switching computers and databases. I didn’t get to play very much last week due to playing host and doing a number of things which I ordinarily wouldn’t do (like 3 hour tours, a la Gilligan, of Paramount Studios!!!! Never again!). I am hoping to grind a bunch of hands this month and cash out a good amount since I am sure that moving from LA to NYC will be quite expensive and I am just looking forward to settling in there for a while. I have been grinding a bit of CAP PLO (40 big blind max loss and people play incomprehensibly bad) and feel pretty good about my game right now, I am hoping to run good and drain some money out of the cap games in 3/6-10/20, although probably no 10/20 till I win another 20k or so). My HUNL game is also pretty solid, my tilt control has been a lot better but I am still making a lot of careless crying calls which I could eliminate a bit. Hopefully I run good at the beginning of this month, get back to my game at 5/10 and can have a good month–I really haven’t had a good month since I graduated school but I at least stopped the bleeding last month and I think I am poised for a very solid month.
New Beginnings,

New computer run good
This new computer has been a serious breath of fresh air and it has been so nice to play on a computer and not have to worry about whether it is going to freeze up in a big hand, cause opponents to leave and further cause me to tilt. I’ve had a solid couple days playing and am finally up on the month again. For whatever reason, I can’t figure out how to post the actual graph but here’s the link.

Obviously, the computer hasn’t made me run better, but I think psychologically even just ditching my old database with the gross red numbers and -22k in EV and starting over helps. I also had a lot of normal life stuff on my mind last week and wasn’t thinking that clearly as a result, but have more or less resolved most of that.
Hopefully I can grind a bunch today, one of Ryan (my roomate) and I’s good friends is coming to LA tommorow for a few days before he moves to China, so I am sure we will go out and have a good time while he is here.
